Hurricane Helene Relief & Recovery

Hurricane Helene, a catastrophic storm, hit North Florida as a Category 4 hurricane near the Big Bend area. The storm continued to carve its path north through Appalachia, devastating countless communities along the way.

Key Biscayne Community Foundation, The Miami Foundation, and Coral Gables Community Foundation stand with all the communities throughout the states affected, as many residents will spend weeks and months recovering from the devastation.

Active Organizations

If you are interested in supporting relief and recovery efforts, here are a few non-profits that are jumping into action.

In Appalachia
In North/North Western Florida
  • Community Foundation of North Florida – This community-based philanthropic institution has activated a local disaster relief fund to assist victims in their service area which includes Leon, Taylor, Madison, Jefferson, Wakulla, Franklin, Gadsden, Calhoun, Liberty, Gulf, and Jackson counties.
  • Community Foundation of Tampa Bay – Aiding Hurricane Helene relief efforts through the (Tampa Bay Resiliency Fund), which supports local nonprofits providing essential supplies to affected communities.
  • Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida– Offering shelter, food, and other emergency assistance services to those affected by the storm.
  • Second Harvest of the Big Bend – This North Florida-based food shelter is working to distribute food, water and other essentials to impacted communities in the Panhandle.
  • Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) – This Miami-based disaster relief organization has extensive experience providing relief in communities affected by disaster.
  • The Smile Trust – This Miami-based organization provides community based equitable disaster relief and recovery services, going into communities that are oftentimes the last to recover.

Though Hurricane Helene did not directly approach Miami-Dade, most counties in Florida have seen intense to severe weather, including us. Here are some resources to help support you in case of storm damage in your area:

  • Find a free internet connection (for 18 FL counties)
  • Check the status of or report a power outage in your area
  • Report damage after an extreme weather event
  • Apply for FEMA Individual and Household Disaster Assistance
  • Follow safety precautions as you encounter post-storm debris
  • Check the status of or report issues with local internet service
