2022 Robert Kemper Award for Professionalism in Medicine

The 2022 Robert Kemper Award for Professionalism in Medicine was held on Thursday, April 7, 2022, and is presented by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation & the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.

This year’s recipients are Miranda Ricart and Samantha Rodriguez

Miranda Ricart is a fourth year medical student at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. In 2018, she graduated from University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology. She enjoys scuba diving in the Florida Keys and spending time with her friends, family, and dog, Lola. After graduating medical school, Miranda will be entering a Family Medicine residency at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL.

Samantha Rodriguez is a fourth year medical student at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine pursuing a career in pediatrics. Samantha recently matched at the University of Florida Health’s Shands Children’s Hospital. She attended FIU for undergrad in the Honors College and majored in Biology with a minor in Anthropology. She has engaged in health equity and climate action initiatives and plans to continue these efforts during her residency program.

The Robert Kemper M.D., PhD. Award for Professionalism in Medicine is named in memory of Dr. Robert Kemper, who exemplified the highest qualities of medical professionalism until his life was cut short by Cancer. This award is presented to a recipient who has demonstrated:

  • Respect for patients, faculty, sta members, and peers.
  • Altruism, compassion and empathy towards patients.
  • A sense of commitment, duty, responsibility and dedications to the ethical practice of the medical profession.
  • Comportment, courtesy and exemplary personal demeanor becoming of a physician.
  • An ability to convey hope and be a healer of patients, to be a team builder and foster harmony in the group and in the workplace.
