Key Biscayne’s first film festival a masterful showcase for local talent

From the packed outdoor opening night, which included three films and a cocktail party, the inaugural Key Biscayne festival, launched by island residents Maite Garrido Thornton and Isabel Custer, included three days of films and panel chats focused on the theme: “Island Cultures and our World Ocean.”

Local filmmakers showcased their talents, and film industry personalities like local Peter Zuccarini and former island resident and Emmy winner Billy Kimball participated in well-attended panels. Films submitted by the children of “It Takes a Village,” a nonprofit that creates opportunities for kids of all needs and abilities, were also shown. The festival, supported by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation and the Village of Key Biscayne, had something for everyone.
