The 38th annual Lighthouse Run is quickly approaching. This event is a highlight for the community of Key Biscayne as it brings together hundreds of people for a number of fantastic causes. If you are looking for a way to get involved in the community, this run is an excellent step forward. This year, the run will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015.
Because our foundation strives to provide the best outreach possible within the community, the Key Biscayne Community Foundation is a sponsor for the event. As a Gold level sponsor, we’re committed to helping spread the word and encourage involvement in this important event.
What You Need to Know
Whether this is your first run or your 100th, and regardless of if you are ready to run the whole 10K or you just want to walk a 5K, there’s something here for you. The Lighthouse Run offers two options for runners:
- The 10K run will begin at 7:40 am. It’s open to those 14 and under, 5 year age groups from 15 to 69, and those 70 and over in separate groupings. Plan to run this event.
- The 5K run or walk event starts at 7:45 am. It’s organized by groups of 8 and under, 9 to 11, 12 to 4, and 5-year age groups from 15 to 69, as well as a 70 and older group.
Because there are so many options including both a run and walk option, you can get the whole family involved in the Lighthouse Run.
The Run
The run will take you from the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse in through State Park and the Village of Key Biscayne. It’s a beautiful run to be a part of. All participates gain free access to the state park, water stations and race clocks posted throughout the race. After the race, you’ll enjoy food, water and adult beverages as well as massages and music. It’s a fun filled day from the start to the finish line.
How You Can Get Involved
The Key Biscayne Community Foundation is helping to sponsor the event. There is a registration fee of $30 for either the walk or the run. You can register online at haukapp.com or at the Island Athletics location on Harbor Drive. Keep in mind, there is no race day registration available.
You may get a fantastic award as well! All finishers receive medals and gift certificates and plaques are awarded to winners.
