KBCF Spotlight: iPads for Soldiers

After the oldest son of Key Biscayne local Winnie Pritchett was deployed to Jalalabad, Afghanistan upon graduating from West Point, she learned that many US warriors serve in remote regions with very limited access to TV, internet, cell phones, and no way to carry heavy books or computers. It became obvious to her that the typical care package of candy and magazines wasn’t enough. They needed something that allowed them to speak with their families back home, apps that could help them cope with strenuous situations or maintain training skill, the ability to share photos with loved ones… what they really need is an iPad.

In 2010 Winnie Pritchett teamed up with Island Angel founder & Key Biscayne local, Amy Zambrano to found iPads For Soldiers. The charitable organization collects donations to purchase iPads for US soldiers serving in Afghanistan and those emotionally & physically wounded warriors recovering stateside. Through the help of the Miami community, and particularly the Key Biscayne Community, they have donated over 4000+ iPads since they begun over three years ago.
